Hats
and caps were often used in the past for protection, religious and medical
purpose, as a symbol of status or office, and as a part of social convention.
However, today's generation, hats and caps have become a style or fashion
statement. Different designs of hats can be seen in such events, occasions, or
even outdoors.
One of these events is the
Royal Ascot 2013 that was held this June. The
centuries-old horse racing event is steeped in many traditions including the
raising of the Queen's Royal Standard, a horse-drawn carriage for the Queen and her royal entourage and of course, a very strict dress code which includes spectacular hats. On
this event, the arcane codes govern that ladies entering the Royal Enclosure
must ensure their crown is covered. The official rules state that in the Grandstand enclosure, women may wear both fascinators and
full-length trouser suits, but no strapless dresses, shorts, branded clothing
or fancy dress. Midriffs must be covered. In the Royal Enclosure, wherein the rule are
even stricter, hats and headpieces must have a base of at least
four inches (10cm) or more in diameter, and must be worn at all times, and also
the women are forbidden from wearing fascinators
While the Royal Ascot 2013 take place, the days got off to a stylish start with bold blooms, chic black and white and striking floral prints all challenging for dominance in the style stakes.
Once again the Queen looked so stylish as she arrived for the second day
at the races, again accompanied by her eldest son Prince Charles and his wife,
the Duchess of Cornwall wearing a pretty mint green, purple and pale pink with
a mint green crepe coat and a multi-coloured floral silk dress and a diamond
and emerald brooch.
While many go down for bright crimson, yellow and cerise, cobalt and
royal blue topped the colour charts - perhaps inspired by the Queen whose
favourite colour it is.
Others, meanwhile, go for prints with delicate blooms proving the most
popular. On the second day of the event, gorgeous yellow rose print dresses and
buttercup boleros, topped off with wonderful sunflower splashed hats.
Thus, the Royal Ascot 2013
was an amazing event not just about the racecourse but an event showing how
stylish and classy everyone can be!.
