We're in
the beginning of spring racing season, and with so many events coming up it can
be hard to tell the difference between the different race days. The Spring
Racing Carnival is a three month-long world class festival showcasing
thoroughbred racing, fashion and entertainment at its finest. On these events,
visitors will find plenty of horse racing excitement, fabulous fashion and
social events at both Victorian city and country tracks. The highlight of this
spring carnival is the Melbourne Cup, known as the ‘race that stops a nation’,
which is held every year on the first Tuesday in November. It is celebrated
with luncheons and social events in workplaces and venues around the country. However,
in the Spring Racing Carnival, it is the Caulfield Cup that will first take
place, the world's richest 2400 metre handicap. The second is the Cox Plate which is Australia's
premier weight for age race. These three events are the big three spring races
in Australia: Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup.
As the
Spring season started, so the race days are coming and along with these events
is not just a racecourse that people are preparing for but also their fashion
styles and get-ups. The first of the big events, the Caulfield Cup, will be
held on Saturday, 19th October 2013.
The Caulfield Cup fashion is
all about classic, chic daytime race wear that accentuates femininity and
masculinity while being practical and gorgeous enough to befit the season and
welcome in the races. When planning what to wear
on the race days, remember to wear something that looks fantastic, but also
remember that it needs to be comfortable.
A constant
feature of the spring carnival will always be creams with soft pastels and off
the shoulder dresses. Now that people are becoming more adventurous in their
designs, bright bold colours with metallic and waist belts are becoming an
increasing trend. Nude coloured accessories such as bags and shoes are also
making their way into the race fashion. The crowds create a colourful display of designer suits, ties and
frocks, but on the tip of every fashionista’s tongue are the hats
on top of the ladies’ heads!
Hats are an
essential accessory for any race wear attire that provides the wearer with
shade and sophistication, grace and elegance. Nevertheless, in choosing the hat
you would want to wear, the most significant is to select a hat you feel
comfortable in. A ridiculously large and adorned hat can be heavy and hard to
wear, so select a piece crafted from light fibres and materials to ensure you
look and feel your best and can relax and enjoy the races. Natural fibres like
sinnamay and straw form a softer spring look, and brighter colours are the best
for the Spring Racing Carnival.
